The Bridgeport MLK Corridors Initiative focuses on community inspired economic development activities in 3 significant growth areas that lead to prosperous neighborhoods. The East End of Bridgeport is a proud neighborhood that has seen minimal institutional investment that have led to a struggling economic base and lower home/land values compared to other sections of Bridgeport. The main vehicle thoroughfare is Stratford Avenue which begin downtown Bridgeport and runs through the East End into Stratford, CT.
Stratford Avenue has been designated at Martin Luther King Boulevard since the 1970's. Today, the state of CT, in an effort to mitigate a void of investments has imitated the MLK Corridors Initiative. There are over 900 streets throughout the country that bear the name of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and over 95% reside in distressed communities. After a rigorous RFP process, the State's Banking Commision has named Bridgeport's East End neighborhood as an MLK Corridor highlighting it as a state priority area for economic investment for secure and unsecured funding. LBU & Associates is the lead agency contact for the state of Connecticut and spearheading this project in the city of Bridgeport. We are focused on 3 areas of revitalization. They Are:

We are currently recruiting "Community Navigators" to assist with the planning and organizing of information throughout the neighborhood. You would be responsible for a one or 2 blocks to share meetings, information, and gather neighbor input to help us make decisions in the interest of East End residents.
There is also an advisory team for each of the 3 focus areas made up of 7 individuals. That's an opportunity for 21 community volunteers to get involved in an area that interest you. We plan on finalizing these advisory groups by the end of November 2025. However, there will always be opportunities for anyone to get involved.
